Avoiding injuries when shoveling

Back strains are one of the most common injuries that come from shoveling snow. To avoid these types of injuries, follow these tips.

Shovel snow as soon as possible after the snowfall, especially at night. The longer the snow is left on the ground in the cold weather, the more likely it will freeze and become heavier to shovel. If possible, shovel a few times during a heavy snowfall to lessen the weight of the snow.

Wear boots with good tread and soles to avoid falls.

Bend at the knees when lifting a heavy shovel-full of snow.

Invest in a bent handle shovel. It will lessen the strain you make to lift the pile.
